Hello, My name is Gail Tanaka and I am happy that you found your way to my website. I am a professional translator/interpreter of the Japanese language. I translate primarily from Japanese into English and interpret in both directions for the same language pair.

My mother tongue is English and I have native fluency in Japanese combined with a very thorough knowledge of the Japanese culture from having resided in Japan for nearly 20 years. I have been living and working in the U.S. for the past 12 years.

My area of translation expertise is patents and other legal documents in addition to technical documents such as experimental data, engineering reports and utility models. I also do a great deal of translation in the medical field. My document review and translations pertaining to intellectual property have been instrumental in winning several of the cases mentioned in my resume. In addition to my niche area, I also provide a wide range of other types of translation services, which are listed under the services link.

My interpreting experience is mostly consecutive interpreting in the areas of marketing, medical and general business.

Some of my clients have included 3M, Honeywell, Hitachi Ltd; Sony Corporation, General Mills, Tennant Company, Wilson Learning, Lockhead Martin, Novartis, Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P..

During my 20 years residence in Japan, in addition to my freelance translator/interpreter work, I taught English at the Middle School level and gave several lectures a month on cross-cultural issues at colleges and social institutions. I also have contributed articles to a local newspaper column pertaining to education in Japan and America.

I have strong writing skills and my years of experience in patent translation have fine-tuned my ability to pay attention to detail. Therefore, I can provide high-quality translations that are accurate and that are an impressive rendition of the original work.
